At ALIVE! we are not simply teaching you how to pass your driving test. Our philosophy is that we are teaching you a skill that you will probably go on to use for the rest of your life. It is important therefore that you get high quality tuition right from the start.

The approach which Chris uses is at the very forefront of modern driver training. Gone are the days of the old driving “school” with “pupils” who have to be “taught” everything. Instead, Chris uses what the DSA describe as a client-centred approach. What does that mean? In plain English it means recognising that everyone who wants to learn to drive already has a wealth of knowledge and skills from their everyday life which can be applied to learning to drive. This process is often referred to as coaching rather than instructing and is tailored to your particular needs and learning style. This often leads to rapid progress and most students discover that they need fewer hours of coaching than the suggested DSA average of 45 hours of instruction.

Whilst that is obviously good for your pocket, more importantly it means that from the outset you are being encouraged to think for yourself, take responsibility and make informed decisions. These are the vital skills of a safe, confident driver that will enable you not only to pass your test but also to keep yourself, your family and friends safe in the years to come. It certainly works. The average pass rate at the Burton on Trent test centre last year was approximately 42% whilst Chris’s current pass rate is well in excess of 70%!

Many people are not aware that not all instructors are the same and that some are not even fully qualified. Qualified instructors are themselves regularly inspected by the DSA and at his last inspection, Chris' attitude and approach to pupils; communication skills; setting of aims and objectives for the lessons and identification of student's faults were all judged as being of a very high standard!

Chris is a member of the Driving Instructors Association and Chair of the Institute of Professional Driving Instructors a Midlands based group of instructors committed to developing and maintaining the highest standards of professional practice. He is also an Institute of Advanced Motorists Registered Instructor.
